January 13 marks 25 years since the grand re-opening of the Ellen Eccles Theatre (that’s right, we can’t believe it either).
More than 1.4 million people have attended performances in the Ellen Eccles Theatre since then. As we’ve reflected on our work over the past quarter century, we are so grateful for the visionary investment of those who believed in us and supported us every step of the way. Thank you. Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in us to maintain and operate these community treasures (the Ellen Eccles Theatre, Bullen Art Center and Thatcher-Young Mansion). Thank you for lending your financial support, your time, and your expertise. Thank you for helping us operate and maintain cultural facilities now used by more than 50 arts organizations and 110,000 patrons each year. Thank you for attending local productions and taking a chance on touring productions – sometimes just because you trust us.
Time and heavy usage have taken a heavy toll on our facilities, and I’m happy to report that we are making major improvements and replacing systems that are past their useful life. We’ve completed phase one of our capital campaign ($2M) which helped us update the theatrical lighting system –running enough new wiring to get to Preston, and repair leaking roofs. We’ve scheduled a replacement of the (original 1923!) roof over the stage and we’re working on HVAC and carpet.
We’ve been offered $1M from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation if we can raise $1.55M towards Ellen Eccles Theatre improvements by November 2018. Through breathtaking generosity we have already raised $575,000 leaving only 975,000 to go.
