4. Art Basics & Beyond Winter/Spring

Art Camp - Polynesia 012 color

  • Description:  This program for children from 5-15 focuses on the elements (line, value, shape, color, and texture) and principles (balance, harmony, unity, rhythm, and contrast) of art.  Changing projects bring new challenges to the students while maintaining focus on these elements and principles.  They use a variety of media.  Students who have reached a good level of understanding the basics can move on to individualized projects while in the same class.
  • Time/Date: Starting April 7, Tuesdays 4-5 PM or 5-6 PM & Thursdays 4-5 PM or 5-6 PM

5. Drawing


  • Description:  Using pencil, crayon, and watercolor, kids will learn line drawing, contour of objects, and proportion in fun and imaginative ways.  We will use ideas from “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain with Kids” as inspiration.  Your child will keep and build on his/her natural drawing ability.  For kids ages 8-14.

6. Oriental Brush Painting & Calligraphy 


  • Description: Learn Oriental brush painting technique using sumi-e ink and rice paper. Learn how to paint orchid bamboo, and plum, etc. To study the grass orchid is to appreciate the beauty of lines and of space. Bamboo painting reflects the spirit of vitality and is an expression of energy.  In the class, you will also learn the basic strokes of Japanese Calligraphy.  View examples of this medium on the instructors website ateikosart.com .

7. Acrylics 


  • Description: Acrylic paints are a 20th century addition to the artist’s range of tools.  They are a water-based medium that can be used much like thick, opaque oil paints or even like transparent watercolor.  They offer many options for experimentation.  From classic painting techniques to the use of palette knives and other tools to apply paint, acrylics are very versatile.  They adapt well for college work and enhancement with various textures.  This class encourages the adventurous spirit to reach beyond traditional artistic boundaries.

10. Unicorn Theatre – Creative Drama Classes for ages 5-17


  • Description:  In this supportive environment, participants learn basic theater skills through theater games, improvisation and role-playing.  Students develop their imaginations, intuition, and problem-solving skills while learning body control, gesture and deeper understanding of the world around them through cultural exploration connecting with their creative selves.
